“I am inspired by objects that produce positive emotions and remind me to celebrate the simple joys in life,” says Ali Leja.
“The environment is a wonderful source of inspiration for me. When I step outside there are a myriad of subjects that I encounter that refresh my senses. Whether it is a nesting bird, the neighborhood cat, a blooming hydrangea, a working carpenter bee, or a lady in a big brim hat on the beach, my favorite source of inspiration awaits in the outdoors!”
A working artist for 10 years, Ali is primarily self-taught. “As an art lover from a young age, I spent several decades collecting art and as time passed it became clear I would not be satisfied until I learned how to paint. I was told by several artists that the best way to learn was to paint every day. I took this to heart and painted every day for three years. These three years were full of challenges as well as joy and I credit this time as my biggest teacher.”
My favorite title is "Bear With A Beer." It's clever, simple and to the point. The painting was comical - a bear drinking a beer. The title served to enhance the hilarity.
My favorite artist is Rebecca Kincaid. I admire her brush and palette strokes which are loose and thick. She is able to take a subject that has been painted 1000 times and make it unique and interesting.
My greatest extravagance is travel abroad. To me, travel is the best educator. My top priority when traveling is visiting art galleries, purchasing art of all mediums and meeting local artists.
