“I have been around art my whole life but didn't start painting until after college,” says David Nichols. “I love to create new works and paint almost every day.”
He is inspired by the beauty of nature to create impressionistic, peaceful, interpretive pieces. “I primarily paint landscapes in an impressionistic style. Knowing how light affects the landscape, I can create a believable scene without photo reference unless it is a commission of a specific place. Painting without reference allows the imagination to drive the process. I try to capture the essence of a scene without unnecessary detail. This engages the viewer's imagination as well.”
