“I believe that we are drawn to make art and to be with art in our attempt to heal - to become whole,” says Gretta McCall. “It's why we cry when we see work that touches us. Art has the ability to move us deeply in a way we don't fully understand, but it is this feeling that connects us to who we truly are.
“I start by putting paint or other media on the surface, choosing the colors that are resonating with me at the moment and gesture to express what I am feeling,” she says. “Sometimes there are words in the base layer as I try to get clear about what is going on inside of me and what I need to express with the piece of art. I then respond to that layer of paint in a way that maximizes beauty. I know the piece is finished when I have nothing else to give it - every inch is as beautiful and articulate as I am capable of doing at that moment in my artistic development.”
Perfect happiness is a fleeting moment. It is a fine meal with my husband or a flurry of giggles while snuggling my daughter. It is feeling the cold wind on my face while sitting alone on a frozen gap deep in the wilderness. Perfect happiness happens every day when you are paying attention.

It might not get easier, but it will get more fun.
