"Growing up in a remote area of Appalachia has played a vital role in the focus of my art. Over the last three years, I've been documenting various people and places from a rural coal mining community near where I grew up,” says Jason Stoddart. “I preserve the vanishing rural culture that surrounds me, capturing places and people as well as everyday life. I focus on rustic simplicity, finding art that is hidden in our daily lives. I capture the way things are rather than the way they should be."

Jason’s work combines sepia tone and hand tinted traditional styles of photography. He also handcrafts the solid wood frames using materials sourced from a local sawmill. “This documentary series chronicles the vanishing southern Americana culture, capturing relevant places and people as well as everyday life.”
