New to Artclectic
“Inspiration to create is a muse that comes and goes for me,” says Joshua Sage Newman. “When I feel my creativity meter dropping I usually head out into nature, read a book (lots of art/design books) or throw myself into something completely new and different to learn about. Pre-pandemic, I was fortunate enough to be able to travel extensively; meeting new people in new worlds and exploring these places has always been a huge inspiration.
“I've always been inspired by Sumie painting and found it easy to fall into a flow state watching ink flow from the tip of the paint brush,” he says. “My process for watercolors and ink paintings has been more of a personal meditation practice. Florals have always been a default exploration subject where I tend to go when sketching. When traveling I find that I’m drawn to admiring local foliage and this influences a lot of my work as I meditate or reflect on adventures I’ve had the opportunity to experience.”
Although Josh has been a working artist in some form or another for more than 35 years, this is his first art show.
