“My love of art and design was fostered over thirteen years at University School of Nashville and at Furman University,” says Mclaine Richardson, the designer behind Margaret Ellis Jewelry.
“It was while studying abroad at Lorenza deʼ Medici in Florence, Italy that I first discovered my interest in metalsmithing and jewelry design. As fate would have it, I joined Margaret Ellis as a production metalsmith and quickly took on more responsibilities before ultimately purchasing the 30-year-old business from the legendary founder upon her retirement.”
Mclaine creates timeless handcrafted artisan jewelry that form strong modern shapes and textures and bring new relevance to classic designs. “I design each collection around a central theme, whether a type of stone, color or something as ubiquitous as nature.”
I’m currently obsessive about skincare. This year has given me more time for self-care, so I’ve loved researching and trying out new products. They are not cheap, but my skin is glowing!
I use the word “just” too much. It's the word I’m always having to delete when I edit my writing, so I know I must say it too much too. I’m not even sure why or what it adds to the point I’m trying to make. It’s just...
I love to dance, but really wish I was good at it. I took classes and was on the USN dance team growing up, but let’s just say that there is a reason I was always put in the back row during performances…My dad doesn’t call me “Grace” for nothing! I had fun though. :)
Mclaine's jewelry is available for pick-up at her studio in Berry Hill (Monday - Friday, between 11-4 at 2809 Bransford Avenue, 37204). Shoppers are welcome to stop by the studio to try on jewelry before purchasing.
