“The doing of art is just an integral part of who I am, I have always made art,” says Marge Luttrell, a working artist for 48 years. “I don't think I could not make art; I think it is just how I am built.”
The subject matter that inspires her the most is the Greeks, their gods and goddesses and their incredible culture and history. “I loved it as a youth and I have studied it for the last 18 years very seriously. It inspired me then and it inspires me now.”
Through the medium of encaustic, Marge cooks wax and resin and then adds dry pigments to create her color palette. “I build a narrative on wood with collage then paint with heated wax. I then fuse each color with a blow torch to build a solid surface that can withstand heat.”
Travel....I have been to over 70 percent of the world and that's not enough for me.
Probably a potter. I used to teach it when I taught upper school art at Webb, there is something very Zen about making pots.
Joseph Cornell, one of the first collage artists. His work is so mysterious and elegant.
