“I’m inspired by people,” says Omari Booker. “I’m interested in drawing attention to people who are often overlooked. Music and the energy of warm weather also feed my creativity. There is a story behind each piece. I enjoy sharing those stories.”
Omari's art is his personal therapy, and his desire is that those viewing it will have personal experiences of catharsis. “The philosophy that undergirds my work is FREEDOM THROUGH ART and I aspire to create work that communicates to my audience their unique and intrinsic ability to be free.”
I titled a series “Still Life.” I took people dealing with homelessness and incorporated them in still life paintings. The play on words speaks to the humanity of all people. Regardless of circumstances, people who are often devalued are “Still Life.”
Sam Dunson. His work is thoughtful, beautiful, and technically really well done. He is also a great teacher and mentor to a number of artists including myself. He is an even better person than artist, and he’s an incredible artist.
Definitely shoes! They show up in paintings from time to time, too.
