“I'm in my 41st year of blowing glass and I still love it,” enthuses Toby McGee. “It’s part of my lifestyle.”
His organic, thoughtful, and loving pieces are all designed and created in his backyard studio. Toby is excited about the newest direction of his work. “It pulls together ideas from the breadth of my career plus a few new turns.
“Most of my glass work is done hot on the blowpipe,” Toby says in describing his process of creating pieces. “The Cairns require more cold working which is cutting, grinding, gluing, sandblasting, and coating with a glaze.
“Since the glass furnace runs constantly, I blow glass every day that I’m in town. I’m usually compiling a body of work toward a deadline. I’m constantly looking and seeing and ruminating about how ideas might turn up or change my work.”
