“I have always been drawn to beauty, color, and using my hands,” says Ashley Benton. “The handmade is irreplaceable. The art of building a skill and growing an eye for my own work has been incredibly rewarding.”
Ashley works mainly with oil paints on canvas. She occasionally uses gouache for smaller pieces. “I use a brush technique in all my paintings that softens the edges and gives it a soft and peaceful quality.
“My art is very bright and happy, but also has a sense of reflectiveness and calm to it. Different environments bring out those attributes in me as well.”
Create as much work as you can. That will help you develop your style, what you love creating while also building your skill and expertise.
I take inspiration from the sky, which is everywhere. The sky is a common denominator between all humans, so there isn't really one place, but I'd say anywhere that I could see the sky really clearly and unobstructed by light pollution or trees.
"Moments We Never Want to End" is one I love. It's meant to represent those nights watching the sunset with friends as a teenager, grandparents on a holiday, or on a date with a person you really like. Those are the times you wish could last forever.
