“I am a very contemplative and observant person, and my work tends to explore subjects in great detail,” says Caroline Sherrer. “I like to study texture and light and bring a sense of nostalgia to everyday items through my paintings.”
Caroline is drawn to familiar subjects from around the home and from nature. “I enjoy painting well-loved objects that tell a story; such as an old rotary phone, a silverware set, or brass trinkets, and I often incorporate bright color and pattern to my paintings to bring them a fresh new life and voice.”
My grandmother and uncle are both artists, so I’ve been inspired by art since I was very young. I dabbled in art for my whole life, and as my interest and skills developed over the years, I felt it was time to dive into a full time art career.
My grandmother’s home has always inspired my work. Her walls are covered in her art and the art of family members and artists she admires. I also find inspiration in objects she has collected over her life, and I often include them in my paintings.
“Reflections of a pear” is the name of a recent painting of a metallic pear sitting on top of a patterned box that sits on a polka dot background. There are reflections of these patterns on the pear, and while the name literally describes these reflections, it also suggests that the pear has the ability to self-reflect. My uncle came up with the title and I found it funny!
