Mixed Media 2D “I got in trouble for always drawing from my math teachers in elementary school.” That’s what prompted Hannah Lane to become an artist.
Now a working artist for 20 years, Hannah draws deep inspiration from the vibrant landscapes, diverse cultures, and heartfelt sense of family and community found in her Southern roots.
Known for her bold color and collage-like layering, Hannah’s work blends pigmented Japanese papers, expressive oil pastel line work, and rich washes of acrylic paint to create textured, energetic paintings. “It is bright, colorful and whimsical like my sense of humor.”

What advice would you give to a young artist just starting out?
Keep going! Put in your 10,000 hours to find your unique voice. Say yes to everything at first and then let those experiences inform your journey and your numbers.
In terms of your art, where is the most inspirational place you’ve ever been?
That's hard, all of my travels seep into the tapestry of my ideas and influence my artwork but Mexico is a place I am drawn back to over and over. I have been to several different parts and love all of the color. The flags and colorful textiles, the paper mâché and vibrancy of the people there. . .it shows up in the layers and papers in my work.
Titles of works can be descriptive or clever or totally unrelated. What’s your favorite title of a piece you’ve named?
"My Circus, My Monkeys" for a Crowd painting- it embodies the idea of my people, my crew, my chosen family - so special.
