“Pursuing fine art feels delightfully self-indulgent and purposeful at the same time,” says Keavy Murphree. “It’s been a wild ride!”
Keavy notes that ceramics, especially when working on larger or functional pieces, is a balance between technical considerations and aesthetics. “Sometimes figuring out the best way to build a piece keeps me up at night! My favorite way to solve problems is with my hands in clay. Some of my favorite ideas come out of thin air and I love it when that happens! Inspiration is all around us!
“I believe in a process of absorbing as much inspiring visual information as possible and letting my brain interpret this into artwork,” says Keavy. “Sometimes that process is intentional and goal-oriented and other times very non-linear.”
