New to Artclectic
“Painting is both a pursuit of curiosity and a celebration of passion,” says Lauchlan Davis Sky. “When I first began painting, it felt as though I was discovering fluency in a language I had always known. The process brought me into a magic flow where practice felt like play. I sought to break my surroundings into fragments of color and shape, reassembling them into works that felt new and powerful and lovely.”
Lauchlan’s figurative oil paintings explore collective narratives through vibrant color, loose brushwork, dense composition, and shifting perspective, examining our perception of community and individuality.
“I can't not paint. It's terrible. But honestly, I think that my friends and family encouraging me to pursue art is what gave me the courage to pursue it seriously. They saw the growing seed of talent that I was blind to in my teenage years, and I think that my loved ones also saw how happy I was when I was painting.”
A painting is finished when it is purchased! Until then, it is always possible to rework something that isn't working.
Might sound creepy, but I love to observe people existing in public - in a park, at a market, at a cafe. Everyone is so themselves - distinct yet familiar. It is also wonderful to see how relationships unfold - the two friends catching up over coffee, the mother carrying her kid in the grocery store, the elderly couple out to dinner. I'm inspired by the motley community of individuals in my everyday living.
My favorite title is "Kindergarten" for a group of abstract paintings I completed. I love celebrating play and the childlike creativity we aspire to keep as we grow.
