Luke Stretar’s paintings mix traditional subject matter with a clean, contemporary aesthetic. “My work is oil on canvas. My approach varies from organized to fairly free. Either way it’s lots of thin layers!”
Both of his parents were professional artists and both had a big influence on his work. “They have really encouraged me to paint what inspires me and to push myself in working toward excellence in painting and design.”
These moody, clean, iconic paintings “consist primarily of rural America (subjects). I choose colors and compositions that represent reality, but that will also work aesthetically. The images I paint are typically not direct representations of a specific place, but more a collection of thoughts, feelings, and memories of things I have experienced.”
"Stare Down" -- It features a bird facing a large cow. I just like the relational quality of them and the title helps tell that story.
