“Five years ago, I was diagnosed with a rare fertility condition, and I turned back to painting as a form of therapy,” says Meredith Lincoln. “About a year later, I discovered my signature dot style. Looking back, it's interesting how closely the two journeys mirror one another. Infertility is often a long, winding path that requires patience, resilience, and faith in the process. My paintings are created in much the same way - dot by dot, layer by layer. No two pieces are ever alike, and I find comfort in the parallels between my creative practice and my personal journey.”
Meredith paints with heavy body acrylic on canvas, applying thousands of hand-placed dots to layer color, create texture, and form fluid, rhythmic compositions.
“People often tell me that my work feels joyful, and I think a lot of that comes from my love of color. I'm naturally drawn to bright, uplifting palettes and creating pieces that bring a sense of happiness to a space. My work is optimistic, playful, and detail-oriented, which I think reflects who I am as a person. I enjoy finding beauty in everyday moments, and that perspective naturally finds its way onto the canvas.”
Create for yourself before you create for anyone else. Don't chase trends, and don't try to paint like someone else. Spend that energy discovering what makes your work uniquely yours. The pieces that feel the most authentic are often the ones that connect most deeply with others. And most importantly - have fun. If you're enjoying the process, it shows!
I hope my work serves as a reminder that beauty and joy can be found even in life's more challenging seasons. Many of my paintings are built slowly, one dot at a time, which feels symbolic of the way I approach life. Progress isn't always dramatic - sometimes it's simply showing up and taking the next small step. If someone walks away feeling hopeful, encouraged, or simply a little lighter than they did before, then I've accomplished what I set out to do.
Right now, my favorite title is "Missing Puzzle Piece". I created the painting during a season when my husband and I thought we had found the missing piece of the puzzle in our journey to start a family. As it turned out, that wasn't the case. What's interesting is that the painting itself contains a lot of negative space, with areas where the dots never fully connect. At the time, I didn't think much of it, but looking back, it feels symbolic. The piece became a reminder that life's stories don't always unfold the way we expect, and that sometimes we're still searching for the pieces that will complete the picture.
