“My work focuses on all of the things I love: color, harmony, nature, femininity,” says Sara Kate Eberhart.
Sara Kate uses natural, ancient dyes such as madder root, indigo, and walnut to create imagined landscapes and figures on linen, wool, and paper.
“As far back as I can remember I have always been a maker. I cannot imagine a world in which I wasn't making things. Inspiration sometimes comes to me like a lightning bolt from the ether. Sometimes it comes from the color of moss, a lyric of a song, or making a mistake."
After working as an art teacher for many years, she began to give more attention to her personal art making practice. Eventually, Sara Kate stopped teaching and transitioned into making art full time.
People often say my work makes them feel tranquil, peaceful, thoughtful, connected. I’m honored to create that feeling for someone’s space.
One of my favorite feelings is when a piece is finished. I get a little butterfly flutter feeling and everything is ‘just right’ for that minute. Content and complete.
In terms of my art -- probably in the art room with 20 kindergartners! They’re fearless, creative souls.
