Mixed Media 2D “I had always loved art and music—I went to college for music and focused on writing and performing, and randomly one summer I decided to try painting. It took off and I think music influenced my process from the very beginning,” says Sarah. “I am looking for ways to incorporate both music and art into my creations.”
Nature, emotion, film, music, design and so many other things inspire Sarah to create. “I feel inspired by new things and try to use that inspiration to try new techniques.”
Sarah tea stains paper and canvas with black tea, then uses watercolor, acrylic, gouache and oil in multiple layers; using brushes and knives to create botanicals, landscapes and abstracts. “I love how the tea staining gives the art an antique look!”

Describe your dream art project.
I would love to play original music on a loop pedal or with a band—-and while it is playing, create a piece of art that captures how the music makes me feel!
What is the most important thing you wanted viewers to take away from your art?
I want them to have a sense of peace and calming when they look at my art. Something that draws them in—allowing them to imagine a memory or place they may have been before!
Titles of works can be descriptive or clever or totally unrelated. What’s your favorite title of a piece you’ve named?
I am so bad at naming my pieces!! I think my favorite series is “mysterious forest” because it applies to so many landscapes and headspaces and stories. Everyone has experienced a mysterious forest before!!
