Mixed Media 2D “I am inspired by nature, history, music, film, design, and emotion,” says Sarah Mason. “Usually I am fixated on a color scheme and this is shown throughout each of the series that I create.
“I am always trying new methods and techniques to experiment and further progress my abilities. Inspiration comes in many forms, especially when working around other creatives and sharing thoughts and ideas with each other.”
To create her original work, Sarah tea stains paper and canvas with black tea then uses watercolor, acrylic, gouache and oil in multiple layers, using brushes and knives to create botanicals, landscapes and abstracts.
“I think my work is calming and also a little ADHD at the same time. This describes my personality:).”

What advice would you give to a young artist just starting out?
Try every medium! Don’t follow the “rules”. Use emotion to guide your process.
How do you know when a piece is finished?
Less is more. You can always add more—but you usually can’t remove it. I try to stop before it gets to that point.
In terms of your art, where is the most inspirational place you’ve ever been?
Definitely mountains. Wyoming—always.
