New to Artclectic
“I have been drawn to work with my hands and create since a young age,” says Stephanie Martin. “In my early 20s I was working in a field that left me feeling drained and unfulfilled, so I decided to follow my passion for art!”
Stephanie throws each porcelain piece on the wheel. Then each is altered, sanded, sponged, and fired in the kiln. Once fired, she lays out pieces onto a prepared panel creating her desired form. Finally, she installs each piece.
“My work holds a softness that I believe I possess within motherhood and my other relationships. It's also resilient, it passes through temperatures that reach well over 2,000 degrees. And while I could never withstand that amount of heat, the trials I have been blessed to walk through have gifted me with a resiliency that I am proud to claim.”
Just try to get out of your own way! Experiment, play, find beauty in the unexpected and the "mistakes". Never turn down opportunities to explore different mediums that may not align with your work - you never know how they could inform your work down the road. And always try to keep one foot in some sort of continuing education!
I often hear people say that my work makes them feel calm and at peace. I love that idea of bringing calm and peace into people’s lives. Many of them are prayed over during my studio practice, I believe that people can really feel that. I also really enjoy when my work makes a viewer stop and think about something, ask questions, or evoke curiosity.
Paris, Tuscany, Ireland, sailing through the Caribbean and so many other faraway places have certainly left a lasting impact. But I love where I live, and I'm so blessed to be able to spend time deep within the woods at my home on Lookout Mountain, or hop over to the hang-glider park which holds the most breathtaking views of the Georgia landscape at sunset, or drive down the mountain and sail my boat in the lake which boasts its own unique beauty.
