With a decade under her belt as a self-taught artist, Amanda Bennett can be inspired by an everyday item, an old photograph, a textured surface, or even a single word. “I like everyday things, especially when their meaning and context has evolved, transforming their importance based on time and place. Using these images, my artwork takes a critical view of social, political, and cultural issues with a hint of humor.
“I begin each piece by building up the surface with layers of molding paste, paint, graphite, etc. until I’m satisfied to begin painting the final images with acrylic paint.”
