“I create beauty using items saved from build sites, barns and city streets,” says Dayo Johnson. Making the old new again, she creates works by rescuing discarded items and adding them to painted images to bring back their beauty.
An artist for 35 years, Dayo finds beauty in the discarded. "My work is a reflection of life as I hope it to be. Reflections of hope, love, peace and unity. I see the rescued items I use in my pieces as a way to create that hope. These items are discarded as trash, no longer purposeful, but I see them as wonderful. Together, they help create a completely different picture, one of beauty.
"The old barn wood with the rusty nails or a shiny piece of jewelry snuggled up against an old drawer pull. Chipped paint and old fencing, car parts, beads and springs, these are all an essential part of my work and will forever give me Hope."
Saving the planet one piece of Art at a time. All of my work incorporates rescued materials.
“My Sister’s Keeper”
This piece reflects my idea of unity and love.
I find that most of my inspiration comes when I’m in nature.
