“My first grade teacher recognized my interest in drawing and alerted my mother to the potential I had to become an artist,” notes James.

Now 50 years into a career as an artist, he still has a passion for the creative process and enjoys sharing it with others.

“I’m inspired by the enjoyment of the creative process in capturing significant moments from life and nature, that impacts viewers and art enthusiasts in emotionally stimulating ways.”

His work is created with the use of acrylic paints and palette knives to generate textured surfaces and vibrant colors that enhance the subject matter and the aesthetic appeal to viewers.

Get to know James better:
In terms of your art, where is the most inspirational place you’ve ever been?

South Africa to create a mural with students and meeting President Nelson Mandela.

Titles of works can be descriptive or clever or totally unrelated. What’s your favorite title of a piece you’ve named?

"Guitar Solitude" was the name of a painting I created of one of the South African students I met while working on a mural project in 1995. I entered the piece in the Central South Art Exhibition and won "Best of Show".

Describe your dream art project.

Creating a mural in Soweto, South Africa in 1995.
