“Nature is my greatest teacher,” says Jess. “The challenge of seeing light and trying to capture it is exciting and challenging to me.
“My work explores storytelling and nature through painting from life. I utilize household spatulas as well as traditional brushes with layers of oil paint, often starting with a hot pink background.”
What is the most important thing Jess wants viewers to take away from her art? “Joy and curiosity.”
Ah, so many places inspire me. Just noticing the small joys in life daily inspires me to find something to be thankful for that day. I love travel and also enjoy hiking and running at Radnor Lake. There is so much to learn about the changing seasons and documenting them as I experience these shifts and connections with nature.
"All Who Wander Are Not Lost" -- I love thinking about how curiosity sparks imagination and how this encourages people to follow their path and own the next steps of their adventure.
I also love just taking in light and documenting dramatic light in nature or a room, or even the light that makes a flower sparkle or water reflect. It's the challenge of capturing the light and the essence and telling a story with it.
