"As human beings we are all connected," says Jim Sherraden. "I reference that fact and our habitation of nature in my artwork."

Inspired by the balance of design found in nature, Jim carves his own blocks, prints them, and then cuts those printed pieces into patterns quiltlike or those of his own design. Once assembled, watercolor is applied and finally a UV protectant.

Jim hopes that his art is a "reflection of our place as humans on earth."

What prompted you to become an artist?

I was waiting tables and knew I could do better!

What advice would you give to a young artist just starting out?

Two things: A. If it’s not a passion then call it a hobby B. Never stop.

How do you know when a piece is finished?

Gut
