“Retirement presented the perfect opportunity to combine my lifelong passion for art with my love of woodworking,” says Joe Edward Swing. “Self-taught and always experimenting, I claimed an area of our garage as studio space. It is in that little area where I feel most creative and accomplished. It is so much fun to create an art piece; especially a work others may also enjoy. I create art that’s different...on purpose.”
Joe’s pieces have included materials such as clear acrylic tubes, tissue paper, precision cut and painted pieces of wood, pencils and rusted barbed wire - all incorporated into 3-dimensional and colorful works. “Most of my art might be described as dimensional abstract. I love texture and enjoy incorporating various levels of mixed media into my creations.”
Not a gift really, put a prize. I was the grand prize winner of a JET dual-bevel, sliding compound miter saw at Woodcraft. This one tool has been used in almost every piece of art I have created.

"Whiter Shade of Pale"
This piece was constructed with over one hundred individually cut pieces of wood affixed together and then mounted on canvas. With everything painted white, lighting provides darker and whiter shades of pale.
