New to Artclectic
Katie wasn’t prompted to become an artist by some dramatic pivot, it was “more like a slow unfolding, but one moment in particular really lit the spark” she says. “I was in London for work in 2022 when I wandered into Sophie Tea’s gallery on Carnaby Street. She was showing her ‘Send Nudes’ collection—abstract, vibrant paintings of nude women in all shapes and sizes. I hadn’t seen anything like it before. Her use of color was electric, and something about the way she celebrated bodies so boldly actually started to heal some of my own negative body image. I left that gallery changed. I started following her journey, and something in me said, ‘Maybe you can put your art out there too.’ That moment gave me permission to begin.”
Now a working artist for the past three years, Katie transforms her digital designs into physical artworks through precise cutting, painting and assembly. By layering laser-cut, acrylic-painted wooden or paper shapes, she explores form, color and dimension.
My lifelong creative spirit, shaped by my background in graphic design and a deep appreciation for modern and contemporary art, drives my work. Drawn to vibrant colors and abstract compositions, I find joy in their expressive power. But I'm also energized by the creativity of my fellow artists. Our shared desire to add visual expression to the world, and the sheer variety of our unique voices, is incredibly inspiring. Ultimately, I create to bring beauty and happiness to those who share my passion for colorful, abstract forms, aiming to craft pieces that spark a sense of delight.
I hope people feel a sense of energy and discovery. I want to make people smile. My work is abstract, so it invites you to slow down and explore, to find your own meaning in the shapes and colors. I love when someone says, “It reminds me of…” and fills in the blank with something totally personal. That’s what excites me most: creating something open-ended that reflects a bit of the viewer’s own world back to them.
I’d love to scale my work up into a sculptural public art installation, something big and immersive. I imagine giant, layered abstract forms in bold, bright colors. It would combine my love of color, shape, and dimension with a new physical presence. I’d have to learn some new tools and techniques to get there!
