New to Artclectic
“My paintings are daydreams of a fantastical Western world, often bordering on the surreal,” says Kym Day. Using oils on canvas and wood panels, she sketches her composition on paper or digitally, before creating a monochromatic underpainting, then layering many translucent glazes of color to build up rich color.
“The peculiarities in my dreams, like things appearing out of place or at the wrong scale, or sometimes just a feeling in a dream, is often what inspires me to create,” says Kym. “Dreams often reveal something about our feelings or interpretations of waking life. Animals partaking in human activities, like sitting on the couch or eating takeout food, also piques my creative curiosity. Pippi Longstocking lifting her horse over her head was a direct inspiration for my 'Hold Your Horses' series.”
Myself! Why would I want to be someone else?
The Pro Rodeo in Steamboat Springs! It inspires all ages. I love watching the trick riders.
“High Plain, Lo Mein”
“High Plain, Lo Mein” is one of my favorite titles, because the painting illustrates a cowboy lovingly feeding his horse lo mein noodles out on the plain.
