“A lifelong passion for doodling evolved somehow into a professional art journey,” explains Martha of her start as an artist. “I'm amazed by how far my art career has come - beyond anything I ever dreamed.”
Martha begins her process with an acrylic/gesso base, then moves on to many different mediums such as moulding paste, oil pastels, charcoal, gold leaf, and often finishing in oil for a more intense color.
Her inspiration comes from everyday life. “I paint most every single day. This is my love, my creative outlet and I am so grateful to be able to share my love of art with others.”
I want my art to be a source of joy and a reminder that beauty and happiness can be found in the little things life has to offer.
I had an exciting opportunity this past winter to visit the home of artist Frida Kahlo in Mexico City, La Casa Azul (The Blue House) located in the neighborhood of Coyoacan, where she was born, lived much of her life and eventually died. It was like stepping into the soul of her work.
"The TIE That Binds Us" ... a recent abstract figurative commission for a couple celebrating their 50th anniversary. The father figure in this piece is wearing a bow tie. The title "tied" in beautifully!
