Painting “My journey to become an artist was shaped by a lifelong appreciation for beauty, color and design,” says Martha Case Nemer. “Before painting full time, I spent more than 25 years in the luxury fashion business, where I developed an eye for color and texture. After a career helping people express themselves through fashion, I now have the privilege of helping them do the same through art.”
Martha always begins each piece with an acrylic/gesso base...then moves to many mediums such as moulding paste, oil pastels, charcoal - often finishing in oil for a more intense color.
What inspires her to create? “Some days it's emotion - some days it's a color palette stuck in my head...an idea that came to mind as I awoke, but every day it's the need to create.”

How is your work a reflection of you?
My work is a reflection of who I am because every painting begins with emotion rather than a plan. I paint intuitively, allowing color, texture and movement to guide me. At this stage in my life, my paintings have become more than just beauty that I create - they are expressions of gratitude. I am extremely grateful to be able to create most every day.
In terms of your art, where is the most inspirational place you’ve ever been?
As I complete this questionnaire, I'm looking out at the Colorado mountains, a place my family has returned to this time of year, for the past 14 years. There's something about the light and stillness here that always stays with me. Over time, it has become more than a destination; it has become a quiet source of inspiration for me. I am never anxious to leave these beautiful mountains, but I am also deeply excited to return to my studio...with my head bursting with fresh new ideas for Artclectic, 2026!
Titles of works can be descriptive or clever or totally unrelated. What’s your favorite title of a piece you’ve named?
"Who's Gonna Tell Mama" continues to be one of my favorites. This piece, created on a 60x48, 2 inch deep gallery wrapped canvas, was a very colorful abstract figurative work (possibly 10-12 figures) representing family dynamics...the blame game!
