“I'm inspired by everyday life: my family, my friends, my community,” says Martha Case Nemer. “For me, it's not really a decision whether or not to paint — I just have to. It's my creative outlet. It's something I can do by myself or with my grandchildren, and I love seeing what comes out when I sit down with a fresh canvas.”
Beginning with an acrylic/gesso base, Martha’s work evolves into many mediums...such as molding paste, oil pastels, charcoal, pencil, and is often finished in oil to enhance the color.
I admire so many artists — musicians, fashion designers, visual artists — and I'm inspired by Picasso. However, I don't think I'd want to BE Picasso.
I was recently on vacation in Colorado, and I was so struck by how the mountains change throughout the day. One day, after a storm, we saw the most incredible double rainbow. I've never seen anything like it. It inspired me to try landscapes when I got home, which isn't usually in my comfort zone.
"People Say She's Crazy"
I love painting abstract figurative and especially females with attitude. For so many years, and even today, a woman with attitude could be described as "crazy" instead of "creative" or "brilliant" or "determined". I like to use a play on words with my titles and let people make their own interpretations.
