“My inspiration is rooted in the human experience—the ebb and flow of emotions that shape our lives,” says Raisa Torres. “I am driven by the quest for connectedness with oneself, others, and the world around us. This is why I use contour lines to represent life's journey and why the faces in my work often share features with others. It's a tribute to cherished memories and beloved individuals, celebrating how our favorite moments and people blend together in our minds and hearts.”
RAISA’s work is Contemporary Cubism inspired by the natural wonders and man-made pains of Peru. She focuses on simple lines that tell a deeper story with the purpose of inviting viewers to dive into their emotions.
“Expect pieces that invite your mind to wander, pieces that bring relaxation at a glance.”
In a logistical sense, I do not reduce, reuse, or recycle. But in the artistic realm, I fully embrace these principles. I reduce by using a single line and a minimal amount of color to capture the essence of my subjects, expressing a complete and vibrant world through simplicity. I reuse elements of faces to add depth and complexity, creating numerous perspectives and vantage points within a single piece. I recycle emotions—both mine and my clients'—onto the canvas, ensuring every feeling finds its place, expression, and purpose.
I deeply honor my own creative expression, yet if I had to choose, it would be a fusion of these two incredible talents. Salvador Dalí, for his disruptive, bold, and brave originality, both in his art and as a person. In my view, it takes far more courage to create something entirely new than to replicate what already exists. Pacita Abad, for her vibrant color palettes and fearless authenticity. I admire her for sharing her diverse expressions—whether on bridges, hand sewn garments, or canvases—across multiple countries. Her ability to incorporate elements of various cultures into her own work has profoundly influenced my artistic practice. Being from Peru and having the opportunity to travel the world, her methodology has significantly shaped me.
This is the toughest question yet! While "Wisdom and Power" (WAP), displayed in an OBGYN hospital in Miami, is a strong contender, I would have to choose "I Can Feel Your Soul." This piece represents the evolution of my one-line style, featuring five faces connected through various elements of nature. It embodies the interconnectedness between individuals and the world, capturing the profound unity that binds us all.
