“I see the world with the volume turned up,” proclaims Sarah Pollock. “My paintings are a celebration of the color and contrast within our everyday lives.
“We make magic happen in our lives by how we choose to respond to the people and events within them. I believe that our everyday lives are filled with potential. My job as an artist is to showcase the magic in our world through paintings that celebrate vibrant color and rich contrast.
“All of my landscapes and cityscapes come from specific moments and locations, making each one a unique personality and a celebration of the color that surrounds us in our everyday lives.”
Not every painting turns out to be a "keeper." I often paint over canvases or panels when something misses the mark. Yet these do-over paintings frequently turn out to be among my favorites when they're redone. There's something freeing about already knowing that there's nothing to lose, and it's fun to let the first effort inform a better second effort.
I've enjoyed inspiration from locations as diverse as downtown Chicago to the most rural outposts of east Tennessee, as well as western Europe. The key is time: Time to explore, time to catch the right light, and time to understand the personality of each place.

This a Knoxville cityscape featuring a vibrant sunset along a main thoroughfare in the city. After all, we just get through the day to get to the jewel tones of nighttime.
