Education Day

“What I love most about this event is how it brings together a community that truly values art and artists. The energy is generous and inspiring, and I’ve had the most thoughtful conversations – not just with collectors and fellow artists, but with students who are both curious and incredibly art-aware. The kids at Artclectic don’t just look, they know art, and that kind of engagement is rare and so meaningful.” — 2024 Featured Artist Melissa Ellen Hood

In addition to hosting visitors in our Artclectic Gallery, we provide valuable art education for students.

We want to give our students the opportunity to meet and learn from the artists. Students study the artists and their work prior to Education Day. They craft insightful questions and make thoughtful observations about what they see. Experiencing art up close, feeling the contours of the surfaces and making their own brush strokes on a canvas exposes students to the depth of artists’ works and inspires their own creativity.

“My favorite thing about this show is Education Day when the students get to walk through the show during a class period and interact with artists. It’s really special to me to be able to interact with these students as it not only reminds me of the K-12 school I grew up in, but I also really enjoy getting the opportunity to show the students that you really can grow up to be an artist! One of the sweetest moments last year was when a second grader came back the next day with a dot painting she made for me after meeting me at Education Day – so special and it’s hanging in my studio!” — artist Meredith Lincoln

All Lower School students tour the show with their teachers and parent docents. Middle School students walk the gallery with their enrichment classes and High School students can often be found volunteering in addition to their own participation in demonstrations and gallery tours.
