“I create because it makes me happy,” proclaims Ellen Parker Bibb. “The process is like a puzzle to me. It takes all of my attention and I problem solve my way through each work. When I am done, I feel accomplished and content.”
Ellen has focused on painting for the past seven years, using it to transport herself emotionally. “If I need a little joy, I might choose a beautiful still life. If I need a little adventure, I might look through some of my travel photos. It isn't always the same thing...I see potential in different subjects or images...that I might never have noticed before.”
She took art lessons from Chris Tibbott when she was growing up. “That had a huge impact on me. She took an interest in me and I was fascinated by everything she did. If I hadn't lived in Nashville, that wouldn't have happened!!”
My passion for creating. I think I was born with the tendency, but I met people along the way who nurtured it: my mom—Evelyn Parker, my first art teacher—Chris Tibbott, and my college painting professor—Hugh Williams. It is something I can turn to whenever I want and it is not dependent on anything or anyone else.
One that comes to mind is "Pigeon Pose". A little painting I did of a pigeon--and I love that yoga pose.
Different artists at different times of my life. I loved Norman Rockwell when I was in high school, but was more into the impressionists in college. Currently it is still impressionists. There are a lot of contemporary Russian painters that I follow on Instagram. They have a particular way of using thick paint in a way that looks like it is just slapped on the canvas that is inspiring. It looks effortless and yet says so much.
