“I am inspired by the architecture in my home town of Nashville, but also in places I have visited,” says Emily. “In addition to observing the structures around me, I am also inspired by the colors and textures of the natural world.”
Emily credits her career as an artist to her parents’ encouragement when she was a child. She’s about 30 years into that career now.
“My process includes painting on both sides of large sheets of paper. Then the paper is folded, cut and sewn back together into a layered dimensional collage that resembles a tapestry or scroll.”

Titles of works can be descriptive or clever or totally unrelated. What’s your favorite title of a piece you’ve named?
Esplanade Promenade, it was named for a street in New Orleans that I walked many, many times.
In terms of your art, where is the most inspirational place you’ve ever been?
New Orleans, because of the architecture, the colors, the feeling and the people.
